For service work, these hones can clean
up carbon deposits and can be used as final surface clean-up tool after
installing a service guide. These are powered with a small hand-held drill at
approximately 500 rpm. Simply work hone back and forth in guide for
approximately 30 seconds. Once guide is honed, it should be cleaned using a
small nylon brush and a brake or carburetor cleaner.
For performance applications, these hones
are used to remove small amounts of guide material for final sizing and provide
a cross hatch finish for maximum lubrication and stem-to-guide seal.
